When he isn’t leading the Gilman Greyhounds to a 10-1 record and a MIAA A Conference championship on the football field, the 33rd rank football recruit, according ESPNU, is on the basketball court for the ‘Hounds.
Tonight, as Gilman faces the Calvert Hall Cardinals — the team Cyrus single-handedly defeated in the MIAA football championship game mere months ago — there is a familiar face in the crowd to football fans.
Nick Saban, head football coach for the University of Alabama Crimson Tide, is in attendance, presumably as a recruiting tool to bring Jones to Tuscaloosa next fall.
While drawing interests from just about every major D-1 college in the nation, Jones has cut his list down to five schools – Alabama, Auburn, Ohio State, Virginia Tech, and Maryland. Jones originally cut Ohio State from his list, but added them back when they hired former Gators head coach Urban Meyer.
The visit from Saban looks to be a last-second push by Alabama as Jones is reportedly prepared to decide on his destination before Christmas.
Jones collected 2,365 all purpose yards with 24 touchdowns in 11 games this season.
